History:

The Iron Houseof Poissy is an iconic monument of the city's industrial and architectural heritage. Built in 1896, it was designed using a process invented by the Belgian engineer Joseph Danly, who patented a construction system using stamped metal sheets.

The residence was commissioned by Georges F. de Coninckand his wife Isabelle Winslow, who made it their holiday home near the Seine, in a quiet and green setting.

The house was listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monumentsin 1975.

Over the years, it suffered deterioration, was abandoned, and was finally demolished by the storm of December 1999.

In 2016, the city of Poissy became the owner. The building was rebuilt identically in Meissonier Parkbetween 2018 and 2020, based on the original plans and restored metal panels.

The inauguration of the rebuilt house took place on September 19, 2020, on the occasion of the European Heritage Days.

The Iron House is an unusual building, named for the materials used in its construction. Its structure, walls, and roof are entirely made of metal. It was built using a stamped metal sheet construction system patented by the Belgian Joseph Danly. Today, it stands as one of the few remaining examples of a flourishing industrial era at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, when metal construction was synonymous with innovation, modernity, and comfort.
