Aimé Maeght - Art of living and collection

Braque, "La Nuit". (The Night)
As a child, I was magnetically attracted to this painting.

Here it is in my grandparents' apartment surrounded by "The Dog" by Alberto Giacometti, "The Cat" by Diego Giacometti, "The Solar Bird" and "The Lunar Bird" by Miró, a sculpture by Henry Moore and a floor lamp and table by Giacometti.
Our grandparents gave us complete freedom to play, climb, hide, and scale the shelves. There were no prohibitions. We never broke anything, probably because they made us love and respect all their treasures.
They wanted us to attend all the events of the Maeght Gallery or the Maeght Foundation. We represented, for our grandfather, Aimé Maeght, the future. It was for future generations that he created the Maeght Foundation in Saint Paul de Vence.
